72% of Ukraine’s winter grain sowing has been completed

Ukraine’s Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday that as of October 14, 3.73 million hectares of winter grain had been sown in Ukraine, accounting for 72 percent of the expected total area of 5.19 million hectares.

Farmers have sown 3.35 million hectares of winter wheat, equivalent to 74.8 percent of the planned sown area. In addition, 331,700 hectares of winter barley and 51,600 hectares of rye were sown.

For comparison, in the same period last year, Ukraine planted 3.3 million hectares of winter cereals, including 3 million hectares of winter wheat.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture expects the area of winter wheat in 2025 to be about 4.5 million hectares.

Ukraine has completed the 2024 wheat harvest with a yield of about 22 million tons, the same as in 2023.
