Recently, Dhanuka Agritech Limited has launched a new product SEMACIA in India, which is a combination of insecticides containing Chlorantraniliprole (10%) and efficient cypermethrin (5%), with excellent effects on a range of Lepidoptera pests on crops.
Chlorantraniliprole, as one of the world’s best-selling insecticides, has been registered by many companies in India for its technical and formulation products since the expiration of its patent in 2022.
Chlorantraniliprole is a new type of insecticide launched by DuPont in the United States. Since its listing in 2008, it has been highly regarded by the industry, and its excellent insecticidal effect has quickly made it the flagship insecticide product of DuPont. On August 13, 2022, the patent for chlorpyrifos benzamide technical compound expired, attracting competition from domestic and foreign enterprises. Technical enterprises have laid out new production capacity, downstream preparation enterprises have reported products, and terminal sales have begun to lay out marketing strategies.
Chlorantraniliprole is the world’s best-selling insecticide, with annual sales of nearly 130 billion rupees (approximately 1.563 billion US dollars). As the second largest exporter of agricultural and chemical products, India will naturally become a popular destination for Chlorantraniliprole. Since November 2022, there have been 12 registrations of CHLORANTRANILIPROLLE in India, including its single and mixed formulations. Its composite ingredients include thiacloprid, avermectin, cypermethrin, and acetamiprid.
According to data from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India’s exports of agricultural and chemical products have shown explosive growth in the past six years. One important reason for India’s explosive growth in agricultural and chemical exports is that it is often able to quickly replicate agricultural and chemical products with expired patents at extremely low costs, and then quickly occupy domestic and international markets.
Among them, CHLORANTRANILIPROLE, as the world’s best-selling insecticide, has an annual sales revenue of nearly 130 billion rupees. Until last year, India was still importing this insecticide. However, after its patent expired this year, many Indian companies launched locally imitated Chlorantraniliprole, which not only promotes import substitution but also creates incremental exports. The industry hopes to explore the global market for Chlorantraniliprole through low-cost manufacturing.
